Born in New York on April 14, 1977, Sarah was discovered in
a restaurant by a talent agent at the age of 4. She was cast in her
first credited role as Jennifer Bianchi in the film, An Invasion of
Privacy, three weeks later. In 1982 Sarah starred in a Burger King
commerical in which the young Gellar discredited McDonalds burgers.
Outraged, McDonalds took Sarah, Burger King and the Advertising
company to court. This interesting turn of events, created the perfect
path for Sarah to mould a bright future.
Sarah continued to appear in adverts and bit parts until 1993 when
she was cast in the role of Kendall Hart, the daughter of manipulative
Erica Kane (played by Susan Lucci). in the very popular and long-
lived soap opera, All My Children, a role which she stayed in for two
years and which earned her a coveted Emmy Award in the Lead
Young Actress category.
In 1995, having left All My Children, Sarah's agent called her and
told her abourt a new role that had just come up. The programme
was about a 16 year old High School student who was also a Vampire
Slayer. Intrigued with the idea, Sarah agreed to go and try out for the
role. However, when she arrived the casting director felt she would be
better suited in the role of Cordelia. Sarah read the part but felt unhappy
with how she had done. After begging the casting director to let her try
out for the role of Buffy, they finally relented and the rest as they say is
history.
